Stuart Devlin 1978 silver, silver gilt & enamel surprise egg with hedgehog

Another lovely Stuart Devlin surprise egg. This one was made in 1978 and is no. 96 of (probably) 300. The textured gilded silver exterior opens by lifting off the top to reveal a gilded hedgehog beneath a silver & silver gilt plant above oxidised silver pebbles all on a green enamel ground. The egg is hallmarked by the London Assay Office for silver & 1978 and bears Stuart Devlin's sponsor's mark "SD" in an oval cartouche. It is also stamped 96 being its limited edition number. It is presented in the usual black box with red velvet & silk lining that is printed in gold with the retailer's name "Boodle and Dunthorne" and with Stuart Devlin's facsimile signature also in gold.
